SOC Timetable for 2008 / 2009
Introduction
Since 2004 / 2005, the university has adopted a university-wide
timetabling system called Syllabus Plus or S+ for short. This means that
the tutorial and lab timetable are no longer available as exported Excel
spreadsheets. Instead, they can now be viewed on the web according to
module code.
Location Key
The locations given may not have the room description next to it. So
here are simple tables showing the details of each room.
As an example, SOC1/545 refers to Block SOC1 Level 5 Room 45, or SOC1
#05-45.
COM1/206 refers to Block COM1 Level 2 Room 6, or COM1 #02-06.
AS6/206 refers to Block AS6 Level 2 Room 6, or AS6 #02-06.
The following abbreviations are used:
PL = Programming Lab.
TR = Tutorial Room.
SR = Seminar Room.

How to Find a Module
The following modules are listed under “Non-Faculty-Based
Departments”:
All other SOC modules are listed under “School of
Computing”.
Viewing a Module's Timetable
Each activity (lecture, tutorial, lab, or recitation) is displayed as
shown in this example: CS1101X-T(8). How do I decipher this?
- The first field CS1101X refers to the module code.
- The third field T refers to the type of activity, where:
- L = Lecture.
- T = Tutorial.
- B = Lab.
- R = Recitation.
- The third field 8 refers to the group number.
- Some modules, like ET1000, require students to attend two tutorial
sessions per week. The tutorial group will then show up twice in the
weekly schedule.
Ok I've read the above instructions and I want to see the timetable!
Note that the timetables are not finalised and are still subject to
change! The tentative timetable for the tutorials / labs can also be
found in IVLE (click on the module, then click “Timetable”
on the left).
Status of timetabling
- Semester 1 and 2 lectures have been planned, but changes are still
possible.
- Semester 1 tutorials / labs / recitations have been planned but
changes are very likely.
- Semester 2 tutorials / labs / recitations have not been planned yet;
ignore everything you see there.
