Achievers among Achievers
Announcing the Winners of Outstanding Computing Alumni Award 2008
On 23 August 2008, NUS School of Computing marked a milestone in institutional history and computing development in Singapore with SoC 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner, and celebrated the achievements of its alumni through the launch of the Outstanding Computing Alumni Award, and the presentation of the Award to the inaugural winners.
Receiving the Award from Guest-of-Honour RAdm (NS) Ronnie Tay, CEO of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to loud applause from an audience of some 470 were:
- Ms Tan Kar Joo, Class of 1987, Winner of Outstanding Computing Alumni Award 2008 for Public Service
- Mr Roger Lim, Class of 1997, Winner of Outstanding Computing Alumni Award 2008 for Entrepreneurship
- Ms Chong Chuan Neo, Class of 1985, Winner of Outstanding Computing Alumni Award 2008 for Corporate Management
Reading the citations of the three winners was Mr Oliver Tian (pictured right), President of the Computer and Information Science Alumni Association (CISAA).
In his preamble to the citations, he said: “As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of SoC as a faculty, and its fuller history that stretches back 33 years, it is indeed timely that we survey and salute our alumni who have attained significant achievements in the industry, especially those who have distinguished contributions.”
Indeed, in its decades of nurturing talent for the digital economy, NUS School of Computing and its predecessor departments have produced a trail of alumni who are all achievers in their rights, many of whom are chief executives, chief technologists, prominent educationists, among others.
CISAA, together with NUS School of Computing, had mooted the idea of the Outstanding Computing Alumni Award to mark the School’s 10th anniversary as a faculty and 33 years as centre of higher learning in Computing within Singapore.
