Double Degree IS Economics Cohort 2020/2021

Degree Structure ##

The degree structure is designed to meet the honours requirements of the two disciplines in 5 years with at least 200 Modular Credits (MCs). In the case of single honours requirements (i.e., Honours in Information Systems discipline and bachelor without honours in Economics discipline), the degree structure is designed for students to complete in 4.5 years with a total of 180 Modular Credits (MCs).

Students may pursue either a double honours or a single honours programme.

(A) B.Comp. in Information Systems (Honours) – B.Soc. Sci. (Honours) in Economics Double Honours Programme

The double honours programme requires students to take a minimum of 200 MCs for both  B.Comp. (Hons.) — B.Soc.Sci. (Hons.) (Economics) :

Students aiming for Honours (Highest Distinction) in Information Systems are required to select option (1).

(B) B.Comp. in Information Systems (Honours) – B.A. in Economics Single Honours Programme

The single honours programme requires students to take a minimum of 180 MCs for both  B.Comp. (Hons.) (Information Systems) — B.A. (Economics):

b Students pursuing DDP with single honours (i.e., honours in Information Systems) and Bachelor without honours in Economics) can choose one of the following: (1) honours dissertation (for Information Systems), or (2) Industry Internship Programme (for Information Systems). Students aiming for Honours (Highest Distinction) in Information Systems are required to select option (1). Regardless of the choce, students are highly encouraged to select a dissertation topic or internship assignment that covers both economics and information systems domain.

Notes:
(1) USP/U-Town students are not required to read FAS1101. USP/UTown students may replace FAS1101 with UWC2101, UTW1001, or UTW2001. In the event you exit from USP without having read UWC2101, UTW1001 or UTW2001, you would need to read FAS1101 and IS2101 respectively to count towards the FASS degree’s requirements and its CAP.

(2) FASS students who are admitted into the DDP after the first year of studies are also required to read FAS1101, FAS1103 and CFG1002.  This is because these three modules have to be completed within the first year of study.

(3) Students in this DDP need not read and pass GET1050 Computational Reasoning to fulfil the University’s Computational Thinking requirement although this is an identified module for FASS students. This is because this requirement is already fulfilled within the Information Systems  degree requirements. Therefore, please take steps to choose another GET module to fulfil your GET pillar requirement. The grade and credits of the Business Analytics module (CS1010S) will count towards the IS degree requirement only.

EC1301 can only be used to satisfy the UE requirement but not the Social Sciences exposure requirements. Hence, DDP students have to read another Social Sciences exposure module (such as NM1101E or PL110E or SC1101E) to complete the FASS’ faculty core requirements.

##: NUS will adopt three new academic terminologies from 1 August 2023 – “Module” will be renamed “Course”, “Modular Credit (MC)” will be renamed “Unit”, and “Cumulative Average Point (CAP)” will be renamed “Grade Point Average (GPA)”. The definition of a Module/Course and MC/Unit will remain the same, and there will be no change to the computation of the CAP/GPA.
