Chuan Hoo is an Associate Professor (tenured) in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics, School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Before joining NUS, he held a tenured faculty position in Hong Kong. His primary research focus centers on digital transformation, particularly designing, deploying, and evaluating technological innovations. Through past and ongoing projects, he conducts comprehensive analyses and assessments of digital technologies utilising various scientific methodologies (e.g., field experiments and mixed methods). These efforts aim to elucidate their roles in reshaping business operations and enhancing societal well-being. As new technologies and applications continue to emerge and evolve, he concentrates on two critical areas: digital commerce (i.e., the provision of digital services such as online shopping aids) and digital organisation (i.e., ensuring operational efficiency and performance). This focus yields valuable insights into the implications of digital advancements, both within organisations and at their interfaces. Collaborative initiatives with public and private entities further amplify the impact and relevance of my research. Through these endeavors, he aims to deepen our understanding of the intersection between technology and organisational effectiveness and its broader societal implications. His research has been published in prestigious journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of AIS, ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, and Long-Range Planning, among many others. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers. Chuan Hoo serves or has served on the editorial boards of leading journals, including Information Systems Research (Associate Editor), MIS Quarterly (Associate Editor), Journal of AIS (editorial board member), and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (editorial board member), among others. Chuan Hoo is the recipient of the INFORMS ISS Design Science Award (2013), the MIS Quarterly Outstanding Associate Editor Award (2016), the Journal of AIS Best Reviewer Award (2016), the Journal of AIS Reviewer Hall of Fame (only one scholar recognized to be a top reviewer with over 50+ papers reviewed in 2020), among others.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

Digital crisis and preparedness
The rapid development of the digital economy brings risks and dangers. Anticipating and preparing for the sudden occurrence of digital crises have become major priorities. This project, with a focus on digital crisis management, examines how digital companies could prepare for major digital crises, such as digital service failure.

Digitalization for Disaster Response Mission
The climate crisis lurks in the background and steadily instills disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, landslides, and cyclones. This research project examines how technology can be designed and implemented to support activated disaster response organizations in their operations.

Digitalization of Healthcare Services
The healthcare sector is undergoing a major digital transformation due to rapidly changing demographic populations. This project examines the design, implementation, and usage of digital technology among healthcare workers in hospital settings.
