26 September 2019 – NUS Computing and the Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) announced a joint partnership on 19 September to enrol top students from Switzerland’s SIT into the NUS Computing’s Master of Computing programme. Under the partnership, up to 15 students from SIT will be selected to enrol into a 12-month NUS Master of Computing programme.
Currently, five SIT students have already joined the programme and are working towards obtaining their NUS Master of Computing degree.
SIT is a newly established private, non-profit university in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, that offers tertiary education, research opportunities, and an entrepreneurial environment in the areas of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Blockchain, and Digital Law.
The partnership between SIT and NUS Computing will provide SIT students with the opportunity to develop unique skills in areas ranging from Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Software Verification and Cybersecurity. The Swiss institute has also established a similar partnership with Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.
“The cyber landscape is ever-changing, and it is our mission to provide practical skills that graduates can use to solve real industry problems,” said Dr Serguei Beloussov, SIT chairman and CEO of cybersecurity firm Acronis. “We are also excited to announce that job placements at Acronis will be made available to these SIT students who are part of this special arrangement, ensuring a great career start for these students in the IT industry.”
“NUS Computing consistently places at the very top of university rankings in computer science worldwide. We are impressed by the School’s focus on excellence, which matches our own,” said Professor Bertrand Meyer, SIT Provost. “As a brand new institution with the ambition to join the very top ranks of universities in technology, SIT would be hard pressed to find a better partner for launching its educational programme. In addition to education, we have found considerable synergies in research, particularly in software verification and cybersecurity, and look forward to tightening and expanding upon the collaboration.”
“We are pleased to enrol students from SIT into the NUS Master of Computing programme in support of their newly established computer science programmes. Our institutions share a focus for achieving excellence in computing education and cutting edge scientific research, and we believe this partnership will benefit the students greatly. The exposure and experience they will gain in their time here in NUS Computing and Singapore will be valuable to them in their future careers,” said Professor Mohan Kankanhalli, Dean of NUS Computing.
