FinTech Capstone Project Information for Companies
About Master of Science in Digital Financial Technology (MSc in DFinTech) Internship
The industry-linked professional consulting capstone project provides internship opportunities to broaden students’ education through real-life working environment/industrial-related projects. The main objective of this capstone project is for students to develop and enhance their problem-solving and hands-on skills. Through exposure to meaningful and relevant workplace attachment, we hope that they are better prepared for their transition to the workplace after graduation.
Through internships, the students are expected to achieve the following:
- Understand important FinTech problems in the current business environment.
- Combine training from NUS and on-the-job learning to develop FinTech solutions with high business values.
- Learn how to work in a team to solve real world FinTech problems.
- Understand the knowledge and skills in demand and have a better idea about the electives to choose whilst in their MSc DFT programme.
The capstone internship provides organisations with an opportunity to tap into the MSc DFinTech talents who are groomed through our rigorous programme.

Procedure to post an internship position on NUS TalentConnect
Companies who do not have a registered account with the NUS TalentConnect portal may proceed to register their company via the portal.
Our online system will open from 1 November 2024 to 31 March 2025 for you to submit your internship postings for our internship programme.
- Login to NUS TalentConnect portal at https://nus-csm.symplicity.com/employers/index.php
- Click on “Jobs & Internships” and select “Postings”
- Click on “Create A Job/Internship”
- Complete the internship form and remember the following 7 key fields:
- Position Type: Select “Internships- School of Computing”.
Restrict Applications/ Activate Screening: Select “Yes”. [This allows only eligible computing students to apply] - SoC Experiential Learning Placement Type: Select “FinTech Capstone Project (Master of Science)”
- Work Term: Select “2025 Summer Vacation (May ’25 to Aug ’25)”
- Estimated Internship Start Date and Estimated Internship End Date: “Mid-May 2025 to mid-October 2025” [Some deviation in dates and extensions can be permitted. Please contact us at msc-dft-capstone@comp.nus.edu.sg if you have queries on the dates.]
- Internship/ Project Description: Please provide detailed descriptions of what the intern will be doing.
Example of the types of details that you should include- Details on the technical tasks the intern will be tasked to perform
- The types of technical tools they will have a chance to use
- The types of programming languages they will be programming in. Providing as much details regarding what the intern will be doing and how they are applying their skills will help facilitate the processing/approval of your submissions.

Other points to note:
- Kindly ensure that ALL the above fields are filled in correctly, otherwise the posting will not be routed to SoC for approval/be rejected and will result in delays.
- This project is open to: All students (We would suggest putting “All students” if possible as our cohort is smaller and this would increase application rates)
- Letter of contract: Students will be required to sign a contract with the company in order to be covered under the Employment Act. You may refer to the CFG Recommended Internship Guidelines for reference.
- Evaluation: Company Advisor (Reporting Manager/Supervisor) is required to provide guidance and evaluation of the student’s interim and final reports during the internship.
- Position Type: Select “Internships- School of Computing”.
Please note that only computing internship offers that meet the following criteria will be recognised by the School.
- Approved under the SoC’s internship programmes
- Student has accepted the internship offer on NUS TalentConnect
This will help us better manage student placements as we do not allow students to withdraw and switch internships after accepting an offer from an Employer. If you would like to record student applications in your company recruitment system, we would greatly appreciate if you could ensure that an accepted offer is recorded in the TalentConnect portal.
The role of Company Advisor
An appointed advisor of the host company will be required to provide the following support:
- Provide supervision and guidance to the student(s) throughout their internship.
- Assists students in identifying and clarifying internship goals and objectives. Discuss with the students the details of their internship programme’s expected outcomes.
- Provide ethical guidance and support as the student practices professional skills and develops a professional role.
- Respond to concerns and questions of student.
- Review and assess the final report submitted by student.
- Evaluate student’s work and presentation.
- Provide feedback to NUS School of Computing to help with assessment of student.
Student Eligibility
MSc DFinTech (DFT) students should complete 20 units of core courses, including IT5001 Software Development Fundamentals (Python Programming) and IT5003 Data Structures and Algorithms, before embarking on capstone project from mid-May to mid-October.
Monthly Allowance
The recommended minimum monthly allowance for computing internships is S$1,200.
