Please provide your comments on any aspect of the module or online platform in the space below. In particular, please tell us more about your experience with the online parts of the module; and let us have your suggestions on how we can improve the teaching in the module, both online and in the classroom. 2 | CS1010FC is awesome :D WOOOO! |
| Coursera is no more than a glorified video-hosting solution and IVLE has not been used at all. I would advocate for future iBLOCs to be conducted solely on Coursemology. |
| For classroom, the professor can focus more on giving tips to students on how they can improve their grades. For online, the videos uploaded can focus more on questions that are more likely to come out in exams. |
| My biggest issue with the module is that it greatly disadvantages those who are still in NS and have a 5-day work schedule. Moreover, some of the more abstract concepts like Data-Passing or Data-Directed Programming could have been explained more simply. |
| The coursemology platform was amazing. |
| The module has been well tailored to suit the needs of RNSmen like myself, both in terms of time and difficulty. Ample time is given to complete the assignments, while the pace of learning is not overwhelming for RNSmen who have been out of academic life for 2 years. |
| The module was very well-planned. Kudos to Prof Ben and all the TAs for their assistance and help as well as guidance throughout the course. One feedback would be to shorten the duration of the course by just a little, not by bringing forward the end-date but by delaying the start date. Because half of the class was still in National Service when the course started in mid Jan and only ORD-ed in March, hence it would be better to just start after the guys come out from NS, with the shorter time, the overall module can be more focused. By then the guys would have the time and energy to carry on with the modules, instead of balancing coursework with NS from Jan till Mar. |
| The online parts of the module (Coursemology, Coursera, WebEx) serve as good platforms for students to learn and interact with one another. I enjoyed these platforms as I learnt a lot from them and it is very convenient for students to access course materials from them. The teaching in the module can be improved by engaging the students more during classroom discussions and more study materials can be provided to enhance the process of learning. |
| The online platform allowed us to contact your tutors and obtain valuable feedback and discussion. |
| The use of Coursemology in this module is a truly excellent and engaging experience. Not only do we have some flexibility of when to view lectures and do graded assignments, we are also given a myriad of ungraded exercises that we can do at our own leisure to further enhance our concepts beyond what the lectures teach us. Even the assignments are conducted in an interesting, engaging manner; some of them actually give us a story for us to apply our knowledge to instead of just a bunch of questions to answer. Furthermore, the fact that it is possible to hit 35% for the CA component (Coursemology Level) without getting perfect scores in everything takes away pressure from having to do everything perfectly and instead allows us to focus on the knowledge application and learning process. On top of that, there are active forums that allow students to help one another whenever someone has difficulties or doubts with the content. |
| There were 2 months before my operationally-ready date(ORD) when the course started and for around 1 month I struggled to keep up with the online lectures and online graded tasks because I had to stay in camp from Sun to Fri. If not for my grader giving me extra time, I would have failed to meet the submission deadlines during those weeks. |
| We used another platform called Coursemology for all our tutorials and 'homework'. This platform made it such that this course was structured like a game, where we complete tasks and we earn EXP and level up for achievements. I was definitely not expecting this mode of teaching when I signed up for this course. Nevertheless, I find that this was a really interesting way of approaching the course. It made my learning journey really enjoyable. Not to mention all the cool mini competitions we had within the class. This course definitely taught me whatever it needed to teach me, and more. All in all, my online experience for this course was fantastic. Classroom sessions were also conducted in a effective manner, where concepts taught online were reinforced. The sessions are usually short and effective. |
