Note:
1. A 5-point scale is used for the scores. The higher the score, the better the rating.
2. Fac. Member Avg Score: The mean of all the scores for each question for the faculty member.
3. Fac. Member Avg Score Std. Dev: A measure of the range of variability. It measures the extent to which a faculty member's Average Score differs from all the scores in the faculty member's evaluation. The smaller the standard deviation, the greater the robustness of the number given as average.
4. Dept Avg Score :
 (a) the mean score of same activity type (Lecture) within the department.
 (b) the mean score of same activity type (Lecture), at the same module level ( level 3000 ) within the department.
5. Fac. Avg Score :

Q9  What are the teacher's strengths?
1.Too special to be evaluated :) Not actually a CS teacher, rather a philosophy teacher. Good coordinator of the module.
2.Caring, knowledgable, understands most students well.
3.The teacher is very passionate and enthusiastic about his teaching. He takes pains to excite students' interest. The teacher has also invited many guest lecturers who have contributed to the understanding of the class.
4.he dares to challenge the norm. He inspires people. He is very good at outsourcing.
5.Open, Straightforward, Honest, Caring, Knowledgeable, Thoughtful
6.Focuses on real world learning. Takes an active approach to interacting with students. Focuses on the things that matter.
7.He's awesome. He really takes his time to engage and embrace every student and every idea with his full capacity. I have never seen a teacher as passionate and as crazy about his subject matter: "which is to make a difference". He really takes care to understand and nurture every student to learn about Life and the software development. Such a high-power course is almost impossible to conduct, yet Prof Ben and his team has executed brilliantly! Kudos and respect to Prof ben. I wish there are of the scale ratings which I can give him, but there isnt. Xp
8.Able to inspire and boost morale. Actually helps student to learn
9.An awesome and inspiring teacher who taught us very important life skills and attitude. He gives us the opportunity to not only develop our skills but also grow as a person and exposes us to how things work in the real life.
10.Interesting Ability to inspire Shares more than academic experiences
11.Interesting views on life, and always willing to share them. Concerned about developing students beyond the class syllabus. Good grasp on the topic at hand - developing software on evolving platforms. Words alone cannot describte his awesomeness.
12.Crazy. Pushes us to our limits.
13.Understanding teacher. Want to provide students with best environment,..., (generally best stuff) to enhance their learning. Teach in a different way, but that is very suitable in CS3216.
14.Understands student psychology, emphasizes hard work and understanding, walks the talk.
15.He is awesome.
16.This is a leading question, but Prof Ben has many strengths he is already aware of and making the most of. He has taught us to focus on strengths, outsource weaknesses (unless they are the completely crippling type). Anyway, few teacher encourage us to really think and learn on our own by throwing us into the sea.

Q10  What improvements would you suggest to the teacher?
1.Don't be too defensive, be more open.
2.Spend more time with kids/vacation.
3.be a bit more forgiving
4.You can talk to Tong and find out the personal trainer course that he is taking. I think it would greatly empower you! Xp, have more fun and be more "evil"!
5.hmmm....not be so sadistic?
6.-
7.Frank, blunt and straightforward, some students may not be able to take this.
8.Be more evil =P
9.Nil.
10.Can be a little too forthright, sometimes. And yes, there is an ego. But this doesn't matter. He really cared for his students, and that's really all that matters.
11.Be direct when there are issues.

Module Code:CS3216No of Nominations:17

1.Touched my life. Met very few people like him.
2.he's too good a professor to not get a teaching excellence award!
3.Prof Ben is clearly a teacher that is very passionate in teaching. He takes a genuine concern towards his students and interacts with all the students so that he will get to know them on a more personal level. From this understanding, Prof Ben is then able to cater to the different needs of each student and provide advice. Prof Ben makes himself easily available for questions and consultations through various mediums such as emails, forums, face-to-face. Prof Ben devotes a lot of energy into managing and teaching the module. From this module, I believe I have gained more than just technical skills but life skills as well. I feel that this module has opened up a lot of opportunities that did not used to be available to me. Personally, thanks to Prof Ben, CS3216 will be one of the few modules in NUS that I will always look fondly back at for the valuable lessons I've learnt.
4.Ben is one of the most effective teachers I have ever come across and learnt from. His teachings far exceed that of a normal CS module, but also enables students to appreciate the importance of looking at things from multiple perspectives. He encourages deep thinking, and resourcefulness of ideas to solve real world problems.
5.He's awesome. He really takes his time to engage and embrace every student and every idea with his full capacity. I have never seen a teacher as passionate and as crazy about his subject matter: "which is to make a difference". He really takes care to understand and nurture every student to learn about Life and the software development. It's my pleasure to be under his tutorage! Such a high-power course is almost impossible to conduct, yet Prof Ben and his team has executed brilliantly! Kudos and respect to Prof ben. I nominate him with my blessings and I am very sure that he is a deserving candidate!
6.Simple the best Professor of one of the best module I have ever taken in NUS. So far the only Professor that inspired me in my NUS life.
7.Based on the empirical evidence of awesomeness.
8.Best teacher I've ever met <3
9.He's an awesome and unique teacher. He teaches us real life skills and how to teach ourselves. He encourages us to really think about life and how to make things works. His real life lessons are very valuable and taught us a lot. He gives us a lot of opportunities to not only grow into our own persons but also keep pushing us to keep improving ourselves continuously. He taught us what matters the most in life and I've never met a teacher that teaches us to grow as much as prof ben does.
10.Effort and thought put into structuring the module should be learnt by other professors. Looks toward developing student.
11.Having taken 2 modules this year by prof ben leong, I have to say I have truly found my calling in life. He allows us to find our life's passion, and as exposed us to the real world, through inviting industry insiders to actually share their experiences with us. It has been a wonderful experience being taught by him over the course of my first year in NUS, I have to say, this is an experience that has changed my life.
12.I have learnt the most number of things under him. He understands how to structure the teaching for maximum learning and efficiency. He teaches the students to think by themselves, and think hard. He is also a great motivator and role model.
13.He is awesome. True story.
