The course will have two different homework assignments. The first will be an individual homework assignment. The second will be a team assignment consisting of groups of three students each. Students are expected to find their own groups and resolve conflicts on their own. The course's late submission policy can be found on the grading page.

Your homework submissions must follow a particular format. The uniform procedure is to guarantee that semi-automatic grading tools can be run to automatically extract relevant information to assist in the grading format. Please see the individual homeworks for specific details on the homework format.

• Homework #1 - An individual assignment on game playing.
• Homework #2 - A team assignment. Students will work in groups of three students to tackle a problem in one of the advanced topic areas. You will have to choose one of three different topics for your homework. Pick something that interests your group.
  • 2D object recognition through vectorization
  • Simplified chart parsing of English sentences
  • Planning using Lego Robotics kit
  We will try to accomodate your preferences for the group homework but if certain homeworks are oversubscribed we may have to move your group to a specific homework.

Optional Lecture

In order to do the assignments in homework #2, you'll need to understand some of the more advanced topics in artificial intelligence. The teaching staff will provide narrated versions of the lecture notes for the following topics:

• Perception - Computer Vision (v 1.0, Chapter 24) [ .pdf ] [ .htm ]
• Communication - Natural Language Processing (v 1.0, Chapter 22) [ .pdf ] [ .htm ]
• Planning - Robotics (v 1.0, Chapter 25) [ .pdf ] [ .htm ]

The narrated versions will appear as webcasted lectures in the IVLE workbin. Please note that these lecture materials will not appear on your final exam.
