Switzerland is a very scenic country with a superb railway system. After reading a book on railway travel in Switzerland, I decided to tour Switzerland by rail. There are many scenic routes to choose from. Based on their availability and connection paths, I chose and planned for the following:
Begin at Interlaken Railways of the Jungfrau Region (at Interlaken) Interlaken to Lucerne (to attend the Lucerene Festival Part I) GoldenPass Panoramic (from Lucerne to Montreux) Mont Blanc Express (from Montreux to Chamonix in France) Chamonix (in France) to Geneva Geneva to Lucerne (to attend the Lucerene Festival Part II) William Tell Express (from Lucerne to Lugano) Lugano to Zermatt via Domodossola (in Italy) Gornergrat Express (at Zermatt) Glacier Express (Zermatt to Chur) Bernina Express (Chur to Tirano in Italy and back) Chur to Zurich via Liechtenstein (a small country between Switzerland and Austria)
I bought a 15-day Swiss Pass which covered all the train travel mentioned above, except the Jungfrau Region, Gornergrat Express and the French portion of Mont Blanc Express. The Swiss Pass also covers public transport in the major cities.
