I chose striking orange (Nippon paint WW26212L) for this side of the wall
that's facing the door, while the other walls are painted in
purple (WW21313L). We have Supreme floor laminate for all our bedrooms.
I picked Imperial Maple as it has one of the lightest hues.
Planning the furniture layout for this room took me the longest time
due to the inconvenient window positions. I had to change my plans several
times and relocate some power points.

This MANDAL bed from IKEA comes with storage boxes that meet my needs.
I needed a headboard that is not too imposing or takes up too
much space, so this matching MANDAL headboard fits the bill. It proves
to be the hardest piece of furniture to fix, as I had to drill
holes on the wall at the precise points, and balance the headboard while I
anchor it onto the wall, all by myself. At one point I thought I
couldn't make it. The bed frame is also pretty complex to assemble.

I wanted to buy some ready-made wardrobes, but ended up opting for a custom-made
one as the room layout does not permit my initial plan. I gave my draft design
of the wardrobe to Yan the designer, who modified it a bit and made some
suggestions. You can see that the left is of a darker shade than the right -
that's my idea. Yan added the laminated stripes to break the monotony and to
add texture to it.

This MALM chest of six drawers is from IKEA.
Jane and I use it to store our personal belongings and documents.
The top part can be flipped open to reveal a mirror and a shallow compartment.

I designed this floating "J-ledge" to provide a worktop for display of small items,
and occasionally for some quick writing. The bottom part is meant to
hold my haversack.

I wanted a hall unit to hang my shirt and trousers. This NATURLIG hall unit
from IKEA, made of rattan, caught my eye when it was available in early
2008. I like that it is hinged on a swivel, with the mirror in front and
cloth and shoe hangers behind (click on photo).
