Functional Modeling
heuristics for applying functional models:
- when the problem has distinct physical components which are connected in a directed order (directionality)
- involves a material flow throughout the system
domain examples:
- queuing system where a system involves a flow of entities throughout a system of objects
- control engineering models where directionality comes from the need to control the system
- compartmental models such as in biology and medicine where individual organs map to objects
