CS4251 Strategic Planning for Information Systems

This module focuses on three major areas: (1) how information technology can change industries, markets, and organizations; (2) how organizations can use information technology to gain competitive advantage; and (3) how business plans and information systems plans can be aligned to yield maximum benefits for organizations. These areas are anchored on the concept of an applications portfolio. To establish the demand for information systems in the applications portfolio, students are taught business planning and information systems planning tools and techniques. To fulfil the supply of information systems in the applications portfolio, students are exposed to issues pertaining to the management of human, financial, information (and knowledge), and technology (computing hardware and software) resources.
